What we are doing with
Proposition Rebels
$13,500,000 No-Tax Increase Bond Issue
If passed, the bond issue will provide funds for the construction, equipping, and furnishing of a Tornado Safe Room and Early Childhood Special Education Building (ECSE) to be constructed near Central Elementary School. This building will house seven classrooms, a gross motor skills room, and office space. This will provide a safe facility for all ECSE, as well as Central Elementary students and staff in the event of a tornado.
Funds will also be used on all campuses for safety upgrades including, but not limited to, bus lane bollards at Central Elementary and West Elementary, fences at West Elementary, District Wide Door access control to ensure facilities are better protected, camera system updating, and technology updates.
Maintenance items include replacing the 20+ year old heating and cooling (HVAC) systems District Wide, a fueling station for buses, and parking lot resurfacing, sealing, or striping as needed at multiple locations.
Lastly, updates will be made to the track and the turf football field, as well as updates to the Fieldhouse.
WHY the Proposal?
Safety is always a priority. The plans call for safety upgrades on all campuses to benefit students and staff.
The District does not currently have a safe location for Central Elementary or ECSE students to go in the event of a major storm. This not only will provide for the safety of our students during the school day, but will also be made available to the community after hours in times of tornado warnings.
HVAC, parking lot upgrades, and a fueling station for buses are extremely expensive and bond issues are many times necessary to fund such projects.
The track and football field are at the end of their life expectancy and require renovations in order to serve our students in extracurricular activities as well as community events.
